Fibromyalgia

Kovee Clair was suffering from fibromyalgia for the past three years. She said that everything hurt. Her pain was mainly in her shoulders, upper back and hip area. She had also had two major strokes and countless minor strokes around the same time she was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Kovee was having regular falling accidents, was unable to go upstairs, or walk any distances, and was unable to raise her arms up over her head. Kovee’s life was very limited, even after receiving traditional physical therapy and occupational therapy. She had even resorted to receiving treatment from a chiropractor. Unfortunately, none of these treatments gave Kovee any relief. The doctor who had been treating her fibromyalgia recommended acupuncture treatment.

Kovee came to ARC Physical Therapy and Pain Center with the hopes of getting some relief. After her first visit, she was surprised that she felt better. She really started to feel the long-term relief after about five treatments. Kovee received physical therapy, massage therapy, cupping and acupuncture with stimulation. Kovee can now climb stairs for the first time in three years and raise her arms over her head. She has not had any more falling accidents.

Kovee was very impressed with the staff at ARC Physical Therapy and Pain Center. She felt as though the staff was very knowledgeable, professional and courteous. She is just thrilled that she no longer feels pain everywhere. Kovee thought, like many fibromyalgia sufferers, that there wasn’t any hope for her condition. She tells everyone she knows about the therapy and care she has received from ARC, and hopes that her testimonial will help others recover from pain, as well.

Nilda Acevedo, a good-natured and positive-minded, 61-year-old woman, had been suffering with fibromyalgia since 1987. Her fibromyalgia had been causing her pain from head to toe. Nilda also has spurs in her knees, which have caused excruciating pain in her legs. Nilda was unable to do any stationary standing at all, and was taking medication for pain two to three times a week. Nilda also received multiple cortisone shots that had little to no effect, besides causing weight gain.

In 1994, Nilda received physical therapy, but it wasn’t effective. She felt as though the therapists didn’t give her specific problems enough individualized attention. She again tried physical therapy in 2000, but unfortunately, it didn’t give her any relief. Finally, Nilda saw a rheumatologist who recommended physical therapy and acupuncture treatments.

Nilda came to ARC Physical Therapy and Pain Center. She was very impressed with how the therapists took their time to find out where the pain was coming from, and offered her a step-by-step prognosis. Nilda was glad that it was very different from her other failed attempts at physical therapy. While receiving therapy at ARC, Nilda had acupuncture, acupuncture with stimulation, cupping, physical therapy and massage therapy.

After a month of treatment, Nilda is now able to stand stationary for longer periods of time, enabling her to cook and wash dishes. Nilda is just thrilled that she “… hasn’t taken any pain killers since the first week of treatment!” Nilda is so happy that the staff at ARC Physical Therapy and Pain Center is so knowledgeable and gives such excellent care. Nilda has already recommended a friend of hers to ARC, who is now creating their own success story.

Beverly Powell came to ARC Physical Therapy and Pain Center after suffering from severe pain and swelling due to fibromyalgia for over two years. Her pain was so intense—10 out of 10—that she struggled with basic tasks and couldn’t sleep or walk far. Prior treatments from various doctors brought no relief.

After being referred to ARC, Beverly received physical therapy, acupuncture, massage, manual therapy, and electrical stimulation. The team started gently, and within just three sessions, she began sleeping better. After eight treatments, she experienced nearly a full week without pain, resumed daily activities, and even visited the beach.

“It’s like a miracle,” Beverly shared. “I cried happy tears after days without pain.” Grateful for the compassionate care at ARC, she now encourages others, including her sister, to seek help there. “This treatment gives me hope for a better quality of life.”

Debra Kerr, a vibrant 51-year-old woman, had been suffering from fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis for several years. Her pain, in her lower back and left shoulder, was consistently a 7-8 out of 10. Unfortunately, her pain was limiting her from performing simple daily activities such as shopping and housework because she had to rest so frequently.

Debra first sought treatment with her rheumatologist and took pain pills and used hot and cold packs to treat the pain. After that treatment did not give Debra much relief, her rheumatologist recommended ARC Physical Therapy and Pain Center. She was a little nervous about the acupuncture, but amazed with the relief she felt.

Along with the acupuncture, Debra also received physical therapy, massage therapy and exercise. After 10 visits, her pain has decreased to a 1-2 out of 10. She recently went shopping all day with her mother and played darts with her sons on her birthday.

Debra feels that the staff at ARC is very friendly, concerned and personally involved with her well-being. Debra stated, “They noticed things my family members didn’t notice, and I have a close family!” Debra is hoping that her oldest son will seek treatment at Arc for his persistent back problems.
