Ella Frances Shaffer – Back Pain After Surgery Testimonial

Ella Frances Shaffer came to ARC Physical Therapy and Pain Center because she had been suffering with what she referred to as “severe” pain for years. The pain was a result of two back surgeries, in 2002 and 2003. Ella said, “The pain was so severe, I could hardly function properly to do my chores.” Ella reported that the pain was at a level 8 out of 10 when she started treatment at ARC Physical Therapy and Pain Center. “The pain was so severe it caused me to go into a deep depression. I had no energy to get up out of bed in the morning.”

Before coming to ARC, she had been seen by medical doctors and took pain medications that had little to no effect. Ella had come across an article about ARC Physical Therapy and Pain Center that inspired her to seek therapy. After her first treatment, Ella was  thrilled that she could stand up and walk in an upright position.

While receiving treatment at ARC, Ella was given acupuncture with electrical stimulation, moxibustion treatments, physical therapy and massage therapy. After a month of treatments, Ella reported her pain level to be down to a 1 and 0 out of 10. “It has been a drastic change in my lifestyle. I can now do all my chores, clean, cook, go out walking and have dinner out.”

Ella was not only happy with the results of her therapy, but she was also happy with the personal treatment she received from the therapists and acupuncturist. “They were all so helpful, showing concern for my misery. They were so polite and sweet to me!” Ella said that she is completely comfortable referring friends and family to ARC, because she knows they will receive the best possible care and treatment available.

She had resigned herself to live with the discomfort, until her rheumatologist recommended ARC Physical Therapy and Pain Center. After her first treatment, Brenda was amazed. She had never had acupuncture before and she was a little skeptical. The only thing that made her somewhat sore her first treatment was the physical therapy.

Along with acupuncture and physical therapy, Brenda also received massage therapy and acupuncture with stimulation. When she first started therapy, she was experiencing pain at a level 9 out of 10. Debra Kerr – Fibromyalgia Testimonial

Debra Kerr, a vibrant 51-year-old woman, had been suffering from fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis for several years. Her pain, in her lower back and left shoulder, was consistently a 7-8 out of 10. Unfortunately, her pain was limiting her from performing simple daily activities such as shopping and housework because she had to rest so frequently.

Debra first sought treatment with her rheumatologist and took pain pills and used hot and cold packs to treat the pain. After that treatment did not give Debra much relief, her rheumatologist recommended ARC Physical Therapy and Pain Center. She was a little nervous about the acupuncture, but amazed with the relief she felt.

Along with the acupuncture, Debra also received physical therapy, massage therapy and exercise. After 10 visits, her pain has decreased to a 1-2 out of 10. She recently went shopping all day with her mother and played darts with her sons on her birthday.

Debra feels that the staff at ARC is very friendly, concerned and personally involved with her well-being. Debra stated, "They noticed things my family members didn't notice, and I have a close family!" Debra is hoping that her oldest son will seek treatment at Arc for his persistent back problems.

Beverly Powell – Fibromyalgia Testimonial

Beverly Powell, a patient of ARC Physical Therapy and Pain Center, had been suffering with swelling and pain all over her body. She had had this condition for over two years. The pain and swelling were associated with her fibromyalgia. When Beverly first came to ARC, she told the therapist that her pain was a 10 out of 10. The pain was so bad that Beverly had trouble functioning with her daily tasks. Sometimes her pain was so bad that it was exhausting just going to the rest room and back. Beverly was unable to get a good night’s sleep, couldn’t walk any distance and couldn’t perform daily chores. Beverly didn’t see any hope for relief.

Before coming to ARC Physical Therapy and Pain Center, she went to a neurologist, orthopedist, and a general practitioner. All told her it was arthritis. Beverly finally saw a specialist who determined it was arthritis and fibromyalgia. After prescribing various pain killers to no avail, her specialist recommended ARC for physical therapy and acupuncture. Beverly received physical therapy, massage therapy, manual therapy, acupuncture and electrical stimulation from ARC’s therapists.

Reflecting on her treatment, Beverly said, “The therapists eased into my therapy as I felt more relief. It was baby steps at first, but now I can accept more vigorous treatment.” On Beverly’s first visit to ARC, she was in so much pain the therapists could hardly touch her. “After my third treatment, I was already getting some relief, and I started sleeping better than I have in years!”

After eight treatments, Beverly has had almost a week of little to no pain. She has resumed cleaning house and shopping, and has even gone on outings to the beach. Beverly said that these activities were impossible before. “It’s like a miracle. I appreciated even a little relief, but when I had several days without pain, I cried happy tears rather than tears because of excruciating pain.”

Beverly felt as though the staff at ARC were “... very kind and genuinely cared about their patient’s well-being.” She is recommending her sister, who has been suffering with fibromyalgia for 14 years, come to ARC for therapy and relief. “This treatment gives me hope for a better quality of life and the ability to cope.”

Nilda Acevedo – Fibromyalgia Testimonial

Nilda Acevedo, a good-natured and positive-minded, 61-year-old woman, had been suffering with fibromyalgia since 1987. Her fibromyalgia had been causing her pain from head to toe. Nilda also has spurs in her knees, which have caused excruciating pain in her legs. Nilda was unable to do any stationary standing at all, and was taking medication for pain two to three times a week. Nilda also received multiple cortisone shots that had little to no effect, besides causing weight gain.

In 1994, Nilda received physical therapy, but it wasn't effective. She felt as though the therapists didn't give her specific problems enough individualized attention. She again tried physical therapy in 2000, but unfortunately, it didn't give her any relief. Finally, Nilda saw a rheumatologist who recommended physical therapy and acupuncture treatments.

Nilda came to ARC Physical Therapy and Pain Center. She was very impressed with how the therapists took their time to find out where the pain was coming from, and offered her a step-by-step prognosis. Nilda was glad that it was very different from her other failed attempts at physical therapy. While receiving therapy at ARC, Nilda had acupuncture, acupuncture with stimulation, cupping, physical therapy and massage therapy.

After a month of treatment, Nilda is now able to stand stationary for longer periods of time, enabling her to cook and wash dishes. Nilda is just thrilled that she "... hasn't taken any pain killers since the first week of treatment!" Nilda is so happy that the staff at ARC Physical Therapy and Pain Center is so knowledgeable and gives such excellent care. Nilda has already recommended a friend of hers to ARC, who is now creating their own success story.
